In a sense, despite turning the big 3-0, Ben Snakepit captures the same spirit in the comics he draws to summarise each and every day of nearly the last decade of his life. In his second collection condensing the last three years we see our hero move to and from Canada, tour the world with J Church, hang out with the Sainte Catherines, meet Mike Watt, get caught in the throes of whirlwind romances and we're there to watch helplessly as he gets his heart broken. There's also more pants-shitting, Adderall tripping and days of doing absolutely nothing to keep the old school fans happy. Also keeping with tradition there's a song allocated to each day. Named after a city in Michigan it is a perfectly appropriate title for this album all about memories and musings about his life there. This album is different than his others. There is more confidence in his voice this time around. He knows he has an audience this time and he has stories to tell us. And boy are they stories.
Anarcho-bard Erik Petersen casts forth another full-length to follow up 2005's "Smash the Windows," a collection of songs written between 1997-2002. As opposed to the gypsy-punk epics on "Smash," the songs on "Sink" are more stripped down, returning to Mischief Brew's roots with percussive acoustic guitar-abuse, mandolins, and junk percussion. The lyrics are twice as vicious, covering topics such as the Iraq War, the death penalty, police brutality, prisons...and of course alcohol and pyromania. Previously performed solely at basement shows, punk bars, and protests...and now on Mr. Yuk-green vinyl once and for all (500 green/500 black). The LP version also wields a unique rendition of "A Rebel's Romance" that will not be on the CD.

The Fear, The Fear, The Fear LP. D'OH return with 10 ten new songs! As unexpected as a new full album was so soon after "The Great Depression", we were equally so very happy when we heard it! This is exactly what we needed to get us through the day: direct, yet sometimes poetic and personal lyrics that touch on politics and daily life, lotsa instruments weaving in and out, great string interplay... exactly what the doc ordered. Both realistic and uplifting, all the while grounded and imaginative. This may well be their best yet. "The List" melts my brain every time. Oh yeah, and the art is cool... same kinda printing as last time, poster insert, etc.
